Joseph’s Dilemma: Trusting the Unbelievable
Step into Joseph’s shoes as he grapples with the inconceivable: his betrothed, Mary, expecting a child through a virgin birth (Matthew 1:18-25). Imagine the whispers, the raised eyebrows, the societal judgment he must have endured.
He may not have had the wonders of modern science, but he must have known how babies were created. How devastating this must have been for him! A righteous man, torn between doing what’s right and the societal disgrace that accompanied Mary’s unexpected pregnancy. The stigma lingered, evident in the Jews’ insinuations about Jesus’ legitimacy (John 8:41).
We Need Jesus to Interpret Our Circumstances
Amidst the perplexity, God’s mercy intervenes. An angel appears to Joseph, unraveling the divine truth: Mary carries the Christ-child. A reminder for us today—God’s ways often defy our understanding. In our wisdom, His plans may seem unfathomable. Yet, like Joseph, we must turn to Jesus to interpret the intricacies of our lives.
This Christmas, whatever circumstance you are going through, take it to Jesus. Allow Him to interpret it for you. The truth of any circumstance is only what Jesus says is true about it. We walk by faith not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Embrace the mystery, trust the divine narrative, and let Jesus guide you through the enigma of your journey.
