Missionaries Can Get Lonely
Christmas is a time of joy celebrating the birth of our Savior. For missionaries, it can be a wonderful reminder of why they have left their home country to bring the love of God to people across the globe. However, it can also be a powerful reminder that they are separated from their families.
My wife and I have celebrated Christmas three times in countries far from our family. Part of it was fun as we gathered with other believers from different cultures, trading traditions, and enjoying the blessings of new friends.
Part of it was hard knowing my parents were not having either son around for the holidays, my wife’s mom didn’t have our girls’ necks to squeeze and trying hard to find ways to send presents. The choice to follow God overseas comes with the realization that you are losing some of these opportunities with family. God can comfort you, but it doesn’t mean it is without loss.
Pray For Missionaries This Christmas
As the holidays are upon you, enjoy them to the fullest. Allow the peace of Christ and the love of mankind fill you with overflowing joy. I’m not asking you to feel sorry for these missionaries; just be mindful of them and pray a little extra on their behalf.
Our God who is rich in love can and will fill them with unfailing joy in their circumstance. Help this along with your prayers.
While you are it, send them an email, call them on Skype, give them a Christmas card, buy them an Amazon gift card. Be creative; just let them know they are not forgotten. In doing so, you will also help the love of Christ go to all the world.
