Why Do You Think God Cannot Use You?

Why Do You Think God Cannot Use You

God has a wonderful plan for your life. He has created you for a purpose desiring you to bring His influence to the world around you. God has empowered you and desires you to have significance. Unfortunately, most of you feel so unqualified you don’t step into the role He has offered you.

Moses felt the same way. In Exodus 3-4 God decides to tell Moses he has been chosen to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Sure we know how the story ends, but listen to Moses’ excuses and hear what he was feeling. I feel most of us have felt the same excuses to God’s call in our lives.

  1. Not Worthy. Moses’ first response to God was, “who am I?” God, have You forgotten that I tried that before and failed? I killed a man. I think You are mistaken. I have been disqualified because of the mistakes I have made.
  2. Not Acquainted with God. “What is Your name?” It is hard to think of the one who would talk to God face to face would feel inadequate in His knowledge of God, but remember that he did not grew up in a Hebrew home – he grew up in Pharaoh’s court. He wasn’t trained in the ways of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He didn’t go to seminary. How could God use him?
  3. No Favor with Pharaoh or the Israelites. Two times Moses asks God what if they don’t believe you sent me. God, have you forgotten that I am in exile? I committed a crime. The Egyptians are after me, and the Israelites don’t want me. Why would I think I could have any influence on them?
  4. Not Skilled. “I have not been eloquent.” I’m not too good with words. I’m not talented enough to pull off what you are asking of me. Unfortunately this is the point for Moses that drew the Lord’s anger as it was the only one he questioned His answer.

Do any of Moses’ excuses resonate with you?

I know I have struggled with each of them at times. I would say that the last two are still fighting against God’s call in my life. But I have good news for you and me: God is not in the business of disqualifying any of us. God is doing everything to let us know He has qualified us (Colossians 1:12). He has forgiven and redeemed you from all mistakes in the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:13-14). He has given you the Holy Spirit to empower us to be fruitful (John 15:1-6). You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).

You may not have a burning bush calling toward your destiny, but Moses did not have the fullness of Jesus living in Him. Jesus has created you, called you, believes in you, and empowers you. You are qualified. Go, let your light so shine before men (Matthew 5:16).

Am also having a problem dat i wil not be use by God because am living in sin of flesh. But any time i found myself in d gathering of Gods people i fill like am disown, am not worthy to do anything,

    • Dear Maryann,
I’m sorry you feel this way. I understand that many Christians have a hard time knowing what to do with people still living in sin of flesh as you say. Most Christians are scared of sin and just want others to stop doing it. Don’t misunderstand me – God does want us to stop sinning. The difference is Christians think you should just stop; God knows you are not fully understanding His love for you. I hope you find a community of believers how can be patient with you in this process. May you find a group that will demonstrate the patience and faithfulness of God to allow His love to go deep within your heart. Maryann, God can still use, but He is more concern with your heart than anything you may be able to do for Him.
God still has a wonderful plan for your life. I pray that He will call up dreams in your heart that overpower all the condemnation you feel.

      Blessings,
      Kevin
