    Blue Like Jazz Review

Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller

While I enjoyed reading Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller, I was surprised that it was also liked by many in the Christian community. This book is like a personal journal with the Miller’s musings about his experiences with Christianity. Many of his musings are unique to many I’ve met or heard about. As you follow the boon you can understand his difficulty to “fit in” with many in the church.

While many of his musings were different, it was refreshing to read someone who sounded so honest. He talked about his mistakes, his frustrations, and his struggles to make his faith real to his life. I find these insights enlightening not only to understand Miller but also to understand how to live life more real and transparent.

The book is categorized by general themes to help follow Miller’s train of thought. You find yourself caught up in a story then get blindsided by a wonderful truth. Blues Like Jazz is an enjoyable read peppered with quotes that will draw you more to God and others. Here is a small collection of some you will find:

    Quotes from Blue Like Jazz

I loved the fact that it wasn’t my responsibility to change somebody, that it was God’s, that my part was just to communicate love and approval.

Self-discipline will never make us feel righteous or clean; accepting God’s love will.

Other people keep our souls alive, just like food and water does with our body.

Believing in God is as much like falling in love as it is making a decision. Love is both something that happens to you and something you decide upon.

You can find this book at most bookstores and online. If you have read this book, I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

    Blessings!
