Become a Target for the Holy Spirit

    target for holy spirit

Would You Like More of the Holy Spirit in Your Life?

Good news. We can have as much of the Holy Spirit as we want. God wants to fill us up with the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 3:19). In Christ was all the fullness of the God in bodily form (Colossians 2:9).

Infinite fullness is God’s heart for you. The role of the Holy Spirit is to let us know what we have in Christ and to empower us live it out (John 14:26). He loves to glorify Jesus (John 16:14). Therefore He is more evident in those lives who are living to glorify Jesus.

How Do You Get More of the Holy Spirit?

Now let’s get more practical and helpful. How do we best glorify Jesus? Easy, by doing the things He did. Does that mean heal the sick, feed five thousand, preach to crowds, and such? It might.

Here is the takeaway I had. It’s not so much doing those things as doing things in the way Jesus did. Jesus fed the five thousand, healed the sick and even preached to crowds because He was moved by compassion. He was constantly motivated by love. As we love Jesus and others, the Holy Spirit will be active in giving us power to act on that love.

Become a Target for the Holy Spirit

There are two main takeaways Jesus wanted us to get: to love God and to love others. If we focus on trying to accomplish these two things, the Holy Spirit will be right there to help us do them.

Doing these two will create a target on our lives where the Holy Spirit wants to reside. We will start to look like Jesus because we will reflect His heart. This is what we are made for and how we will stay on the path for what we were created to do.

How to Remove That Target from Our Lives

While we can easily become a target for the Holy Spirit, we can just as easily remove that target. I don’t bring this up to create doubt about our relationship with God, but instead to give us greater confidence to stay on the flow of the Spirit.

Paul tells us we grieve the Holy Spirit when we don’t love others (Ephesians 4:29-32). Bitterness, rage, speaking badly of others limits the work of the Holy Spirit in us. Kindness, compassion, and forgiveness creates more space for Him to work in you.

Create Space to Move in the Flow of the Spirit

Would you like more of the Holy Spirit in your life? Create a bigger target on your life by increasing your love. Take the challenge to make this a year of love, and run in greater measures of the Holy Spirit.
