When God speaks, oftentimes His voice will call for an act of courage on our part. – Charles Stanley
I received this book as a Book Look Blogger. I don’t do these much, but I happened upon the site again and this book interest me. There seems to be a theme going around about being brave by being yourself.
Let’s All Be Brave by Annie Downs has two purposes it is trying to tell: 1. God made you on purpose and 2. God made you to be brave. Annie tells of how growing up she wouldn’t take risks because she didn’t believe she could mess up and still be loved. Then as she got to college and started to follow God’s leading, she started to take steps of bravery. Following God takes courage and the steps of bravery in one season prepares you for those brave steps later.
Our brave steps calls out bravery in others. Through Annie’s stories you can see how her community of friends gave her encouragement to be brave. Feeling loved gives you the courage to take risks. Relationships and community helps you to be brave.
Annie writes in a way that draws you in. She lives her life fully. She loves the people God gives her, and people seem to naturally love her. Her honesty is endearing and relatable.
This book is not deep. It is not a theological study. It is a call to motivate you on toward courage and following God’s call in your life. Courage may be speaking up when others or quiet. It may be moving across the world. It could look like a lot of things, but if we are to follow God, He will call us out of our comfort zone.
I would recommend this book to new believers or those feeling stagnation in their walk with God. The point of obeying God whatever He says is so fundamental to following Him. It is not easy but it is where the abundant life that Jesus promised. You can purchase the Let’s All Be Brave by Annie Downs on Amazon and other places.
