Proverbs 16:9 is a common Bible memorization verse. It says, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” I have heard this many times, but today something unusual stood out to me.
So much of my Christian life has been taught that God is sovereign, and our goal is to figure out whatever His plans are and join Him. Jesus did nothing except what He saw the Father doing, therefore I should just sit hear until I see what the Father is doing. I am not going to dream about what my life could be, because God may have something completely different for me. I don’t want to get my hopes up, so I am just going to wait for His direction.
So many Christians are immobilized in their lives because they are afraid to get too far in front of God. I’m all for waiting on God, but we must not forget that God wants to partner with us. God has placed things in our hearts to do that we are expected to dig up. God has committed to determine the steps, but the steps will not mean anything until we know the course.
What is it that you want to do? What gives you life? Could it be that these are things that God has placed there to give you direction. Do you think that God’s plan for your life is something that you would enjoy and He has left hints in your heart for you to discover? God is a good father. He wants you to succeed and be happy. What is it that God has placed on your heart?
