Adjust Your Expectations

As some of you know, I am from Winston-Salem originally. My husband and I moved back about 2 years ago after being gone for 11 years.

One thing I have noticed since being back is how it does not snow as much as it used to when I was a kid growing up. I used to enjoy throwing snowballs, eating snow cream, and hearing the crunch of snow under my feet. The last two winters there hasn’t been a chance to do this with the little dustings we have had. It’s been really disappointing!

Adjust Your Expectations

“What does this have to do with organizing?” you may be wondering. Just like I have had to adjust my expectations about the amount of snow we receive in a winter, it may be time for you to adjust your expectations about organizing your home, office, or life.

If what you are doing now isn’t working, try something different. Organizing isn’t about perfection, and it should change as time goes on. As the kids get bigger, as you switch jobs, or as hobbies change, so should the way you organize. Just because something worked for you last year, or last month, does not mean that it will necessarily work for you now.

Look at your surroundings with this in mind. If there are things that are not working for you, mix it up. Don’t be afraid to change the way you have been doing things. Ask a friend for suggestions, or call a professional organizer like myself. You don’t have to be disappointed and stuck in the same rut not knowing how to fix your current living space.

I may not be able to control the snow, but you can control your organizing! Have a wonderful month…

March Organization Tips

Here are some great things to do in March:

  • Don’t save your taxes until the last minute. Make it your goal to have them done by March 15 instead of April 15. That way if a delay occurs or you are missing something you need, you will have plenty of time to deal with it.
  • Review your financial plans (retirement, savings, college fund, etc.) and make sure everything is in order.
