    1. Where does the line in the sand get drawn for our decision to quote someone? How differently and on what issues would they have to differ before we crossed them off of our list?
      I’m aligned with A. W. Tozer on all main issues that concern our faith and practice, but I wonder how many who quote him realize how he believed on some key doctrines;
      1. Was a staunch anticessationist.
      2. Didn’t endorse nor believe in Eternal Security of the believer.
      3. Believed in a filling, an anointing of the Spirit, beyond the salvation sealing of God’s Spirit.

Quoting has certainly become the norm, probably as a result of the access we have to so much info. Curious though, the “examples” we so often refer to, very seldom if ever made a practice of quoting others, but instead chose to prayerfully wait for, “what saith The Lord”.

      1. I remember reading the Pursuit of God over 15 years ago now. This book encouraged my own times with the Lord and opened my eyes to the potential of walking with Jesus. I am not a Tozer expert, but I know he often encourages me.

The point you are making is quite different. Can we support someone we don’t completely agree with? Or, how much do we have to agree in order to have fellowship? Or, there a point where we stop learning and growing in order to start teaching?

The think we should pay more attention to what the Holy Spirit may be saying through others. First of all through other believers. While there may be things we disagree with Tozer, I think you’d admit he was a believer and had the Holy Spirit. Thus he had access to all the divine wisdom through that connection to the Spirit. This can be said the same for Billy Graham, Bill Bright, Mother Teresa, Rick Warren, John Piper, C.S. Lewis, Beth Moore, and so on and so on.

Secondly, God also talks through non-believers. The dream about the famine the eventually saved the nation of Israel came through an Egyptian pagan. The high priest that wanted to kill Jesus spoke about how his death would save Israel. The point is not so much how easily we can get it wrong, but rather how much God wants to speak to us.

I agree our primary focus should be what are we getting from God in our times with the Lord. However, God may chose the voice of someone else to be His voice to us. Moses’ step-father gave a very needed word to Moses when he was becoming over-extended in the wilderness.

        Hope this helps,
        Kevin

    2. Kevin, I appreciate and understand what your saying. We searve a very creative Abba, and I would never seek to put Him in a box. Our enemy has honed his skill of deceiption and confussion, and to think he can’t or won’t exploit even this area, would be to underestimate him.
As an example, a couple in a Baptist church starting seeing various quotes via FaceBook which originated from a ministry most feel has twisted some doctrine. Shortly into them being exposed to these quotes they ordered a stack of materials which has created confusion in their new walk with our Lord.
As one who seeks to serve, I just feel that those of us who The Lord has helped mature, need to be sure the babes esp. are guarded against the wiles of the devil.

      1. Dear Bill,

Thank you for continuing the conversation and giving more of your heart. It definitely makes us more sensitive when we see our loved ones walking a dangerous line. The enemy looks to deceive mainly on two areas: 1. to draw us away from God, and 2. to draw us away from others. We might not understand someone else’s interpretations of how to walk out their faith, but it does have to be like ours. I understand there is a need for those who determine theology, heck some of what I right could fall under this. However, I would hate to get so focused on right thinking that it pulls me away from what I am supposed to be known for: they will know we are His disciples by our love. I understand it is a fine line.

        Thanks,
        Kevin

    3. God is sinless . Man is scarred by a sin nature. Only God can see the intentions of the heart’s of all mankind. Ravi Zaccharias was a Godly man I followed for years amongst many others. Let’s remember to put God above ALL of His servants. And we have less chance of becoming discouraged by the fall of what others believe to be a Godly servant.
In other Words, put on the armor of God daily. Teach our children His Word daily . If time allows C.S. Lewis, A.W. Tozer and the likes, are a compliment to the Lords Holy Words. Remember the first commandment. Teach your children well. Who are your children? Your neighbor. Praising God for earthly God honoring men, women and children who inspire in us a closer walk with God. And praying for a healing in those ministries that have been deceived by sin and suffer as a result. May they rise up and be cleansed with Gods truth and healing and become purpose filled servants of the Lord once more.
